SUMMA Student Theological Debate Society began as a pilot project of ITSSM in 2012, welcoming high school students from Arkansas and Mississippi. Founded by the Rev. Canon Dr. Christoph Keller III, SUMMA became an ongoing program of The Beecken Center of The School of Theology, University of the South in 2015, and now welcomes student debaters from around across the country.

SUMMA is a unique program, offering high school students entering grades 9-12 the following fall:

  • Tools for thinking,
  • Knowledge of the Christian theological tradition
  • Skill in public speaking and debate, and
  • Cutting-edge engagement with topics such as religion and science, social ethics, and interfaith relations.

This comes with fun, friendship, and the opportunity for a deepened and more thoughtful faith.

Please visit SUMMA’s website for more information, and applications for campers and counselors

In this video Dr. Keller provides a brief overview of the program, and several students talk about their life-changing experiences as a result of their involvement.
